This post helps Fix error code 8024402F while trying to update your Windows computer.
Solution 1:
Step 1: run the built-in Windows Update troubleshooter.
Download troubleshooter for Windows 10@ aka.ms/diag_wu.
Download troubleshooter for Windows 7 and Windows 8@ aka.ms/diag_wu.
Step 2: If the troubleshooter didn’t detect any issues, check if the Windows update service is running.
Step 3: try running the Network troubleshooter.

Solution 2 (may work for Windows 8.1): Change Windows Updates Settings.
1. Disable Automatic Updates.
2. Make sure "Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates" and "Give me updates for other Microsoft products when I update Windows" is NOT checked.
After that, check "Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates" again.
3. Manually check for updates.
If the above steps did not work for you, try the following 3rd-party method (may work for Windows 7 only):
4.1 Temporarily use the below DNS servers 4.2.2.1 & 4.2.2.2.
4.2 Add the following web sites to TRUSTED SITES in IE:
WWW.MICROSOFT.COM
HTTPS://*.UPDATE.MICROSOFT.COM
DOWNLOAD.WINDOWSUPDATE.COM
Solution 3 (may work for Windows 7 only): Gain the admin access, turn off any firewall software you're running.
Solution 4 (may also work for Windows 7 only):
Step 1: Make sure you have set with a right time and date.
Step 2: Run built-in Windows Update troubleshooting tool.
Step 3: Run the command “sfc /scannow” as administrator.
Step 4: Perform a Clean Boot.
Step 5: Reset Windows update components.
