The term (PUP) was (originally) created by McAfee, the Internet Security company, because marketing firms objected to having their products called "spyware": in the view of such firms (security software vendors), all the information necessary for informed consent is included in the download agreement. It is widely recognized, however, that many if not most users fail to read a download agreement in sufficient detail to understand exactly what they are downloading.

Below's how those PUPs got on your computer. Prevention is much more efficient than troubleshooting: Beware of your left mouse button! And, please do UNCHECK any additional installation options when installing 3rd-party download(s) on the web.
Additionally, NEVER click any link(s) in unknown email msg, document and alike, NEVER directly download/open unknown email attachment from friends/Mr. Unknown; ALWAYS run your computer with a real-time security program; ALWAYS scan your downloaded item(s) BEFORE you open/run it/'em.
