This post teaches you how to fix error code 0x80042109 manually.
1. Open Outlook 2007, click on Tools > Account Settings > double click on the problem email account > click on More Settings > Advanced.

2. set the SMTP Port number as 587 for the Outgoing Server and Encryption as TLS
