Hit www.ipvanish.com/?a_aid=ifk&a_bid=48f95966 and Set up IPVanish OpenVPN on Linux via Command Line and/or other devices today.
These directions are based on a Debian distribution, so the command to elevate privileges as well as install packages will reflect that. If your version of Linux is not based on Debian, please be mindful of the correct commands for those functions and replace where necessary.
1. Install OpenVPN by opening a terminal and typing, sudo apt-get install openvpn.
2. Remove the conflicting startup links sudo update-rc.d -f openvpn remove.
3. Download the config files to an empty directory ex. /home/IPV.
4. Open a terminal session and go to the directory that the config files are located.
Note: If you downloaded the zip file, you must first extract the config files. You can do this by typing the command unzip configs.zip.
5. Launch the OpenVPN client with the specified config file - example, sudo openvpn --config SERVERNAME.ovpn.
Tip: From this point forward, you need only use the last command (Step 5) to launch OpenVPN and connect. The terminal window will remain open; closing it will terminate the OpenVPN connection. You can also terminate the OpenVPN connection by pressing Ctrl-C (preferred).
* If you receive an error that contains something that looks like this:
-----
user@Virtual-Natty:~$ sudo openvpn --config /home/user/Downloads/ipvanish-US-New-York-City-nyc-a01.ovpn

It means that you need to manually specify the directory the config file(s) are in (most likely cause is that you didn't execute openvpn from within the same directory as the config files). You will specify the directory (ex. /home/user/IPV/file.ovpn). You may also need to add "--ca DIRECTORY" to the end of the command to specify the location of the certificate file. If so, the command will look something like the one below: sudo openvpn --config /home/user/IPV/ipvanish-US-New-York-City-nyc-a01.ovpn --ca /home/user/IPV/ca.ipvanish.com.crt.
