This POST helps Fix Engine unavailable or Service unable to start while trying to run ExpressVPN.
Use this guide if you cannot start the ExpressVPN app or see an “Engine Unavailable” message.

If the problem persists…
1. Update your ExpressVPN app on your computer or device.
Before proceeding further, upgrade to the latest version of the ExpressVPN app.
To upgrade your app:
Sign in to your account.
Click Set Up ExpressVPN.
Select a platform that works for you on the left-side menu and then click Download on the right.
Reinstall the ExpressVPN app (application).
2. Further instructions for Windows 7.
If you are using a Windows 7 machine, please follow the steps below:
Click on the Windows Start menu, go to All Programs, and then Accessories.
Right-click on Command Prompt and then click Run as Administrator to launch the prompt with full administrative privileges.
On the command prompt (black screen), type the following command: net start ExpressVpnservice.
Press Enter.
Try launching ExpressVPN again.
3. Further instructions for Windows 8.
If you are using a Windows 8 (8.1) or 10 machine, please follow the steps below:
Press Start or Windows key + X on your keyboard to open a dialog box.
Look for Command Prompt (Admin).
On the command prompt, type the following command: net start ExpressVpnservice.
Press Enter.
Try launching ExpressVPN again.
4. If the problem persists…
Please restart your computer or uninstall and then reinstall ExpressVPN on your machine.
For Windows 7, 8 or 8.1, you may also try downloading and reinstalling the .Net Framework from this page@ goo.gl/8lmhiC.
